MEMORIES

The happenings of life often flee from memory like short dreams. The joys never linger long enough for me to enjoy them. They flee from me faster than they came, leaving me cold and disheartened, like a lonely bird far away from land, drifting above the endless sea. Sometimes I think that this is a blessing, for just like everything else is, so are my terrible dreams quickly forgotten before they can vex me long. Sadly, however, some still linger in memory, gathering like vicious blood hounds around me…

Upon the soothing tones of nature’s music and the tranquility of the evening light, I gaze into the sky searching for the evanescent shades of emerald and topaz that -rarely- tint the edges of the lofty clouds. They are like smooth brush strokes forming a halo around a magnificent painting. I feel my soul being gently lifted from my form, from the confines of reality, left to glide and dote upon the beauties of the heavens…

The evening rains always find me frozen on the bench that overlooks Jewel’s well tendered garden that glows in grandeur…. The soft rain soaks into my skin, its ethereal touch caressing me, its passion leaching into my depths, but finds nothing…A man-mannequin, an empty form with nothing left within. Descending into the past, I reminisce upon the few moments of pleasure that lighten my painful memories…

I used to look into the heavens each night, searching for a wishing star…for I had in me just one special wish : she and I, together, at the Red Beach, watching the the marble sky foam into those soft golden flowery clouds, till the amber glow of day decays into night…lip on lip, skin on skin, her soft breast rubbing onto my hairy chest, heaving, sating our youthful desires in the silent moonlight, as our youthful bodies should…

Oh the sweetness that I felt, the satisfaction. Earth and heaven know: there never, not once, existed a greater passion than that which we shared. The sun gave me not a brighter smile, winds not a softer kiss. Staring into the sky, my eyes would be drawn further and further into oblivion as they marvelled at the brilliance of the stars, though deeper would I be drawn, melting in the sparkle of her eyes…

Melody hid beneath her voice, escaping in mellifluence as she uttered her words…their magic enchanting my demented soul into sweet repose, caressing my mind to rest. The most beautiful nights they were, thinking about her. Her ambrosial kisses were ethereal, like an angel’s honeyed lips…I would not wish in the world any companion but you, Jewel. Never was I afraid, for you were my source of passion, my unsurpassed determination to conquer the world and wrap it in a box for you to keep.

Listen to the steady rhythm of nature… the faint gradations of the camellia whisper a song into the wind. The quiet rustling of the autumn leaves add a magnificent note, coupled by the comely humming bird, the buzzing forest bees, forming a heavenly melody of timelessness, flowing towards the sea. “I think it won’t rain tonight.”
